Progesterone during pregnancy is common therapy to help sustain pregnancy and minimize risk of miscarriage due to low progesterone issues. Once the progesterone declines, the lining starts to shed (causing bleeding/period).

My wife has taken progesterone with both pregnancies, even though not diagnosed with any progesterone issues. It is standard protocol if you goto a fertility center (take progsterone a few days after ovulation or if pregnant). You should certainly be on it given past miscarriages/losses regardless of what caused it.

Progseterone supplements are taken up to 12 weeks (first trimester). After that, the placenta has fully developed and takes over the production of progesterone, so it is not usually an issue after the first trimester.

Good luck.
