Does Progesterone cream help make you ovulate if you have Poly Cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)?

I am trying to get pregnant with PCOS. I am on Metformin 500 mg daily, and progesteone cream. Will these medicaitions help with ovulation?? I know progesterone will help maintain a pregnancy but thats not my problem yet, I cannot get pregnant after 8 years. I thought this may be a glimmer of hope. I have taken clomid but it hyperstimulated my ovaries and my doc said that I didn’t need clomid.

My understanding is that if you’re using progesterone cream in the beginning of your cycle, it will keep you from ovulating. However I used it at the beginning of my cycle for about 3 months, and then went off of it, and I ovulated on my own, so I’ve also heard of using it in this way to stimulate ovulation.
Using it after ovulation will help to maintain pregnancy. I used it that way for my last 2 pregnancies because I was getting older and my progesterone levels were low. Worked great.

I’ve heard wonderful things about using acupuncture and herbs in combination. Women who had been told they had a 1% chance of natural conception by their infertility specialist who got pregnant within 6 weeks of starting herbs and accupuncture. Amazing!

Progesterone does not help you ovulate. Ovulation is controlled by FSH and LH hormones which "ripen" your eggs and cause them to be released. The quote below is from the firt website listed below.
"For most patients, clomiphene citrate (Clomid®, Serophene®) is the first choice therapy to stimulate ovulation. If this fails, metformin taken with clomiphene is usually tried. When metformin is taken along with fertility medications, it may help women with PCOS ovulate on lower doses of medication. Gonadotropins (goe-NAD-oh-troe-pins) also can be used to stimulate ovulation."
You may want to discuss your desire to get pregnant again with your doctor and suggest that getting pregnant is a VERY high priority for you and your husband. The other websites are additional information for you. Be knowledgeable… there is strength in it.

progesterone cream does not affect ovulation; instead it thickens and builds up the uterine lining (endometrium). it is prescribed after ovulation although some medical practitioners advise using it a few days prior to anticipated ovulation. ask your doctor about their game plan with the progesterone cream and metformin. also consider getting a second opinion. are you lucky enough to have a reproductive endocrinologist in the area? if so, go see them. i hope this helps. don’t give up hope. i’m not and i’ve been TTC #1 for quite some time. absolutely dreading tomorrow (mother’s day)…..
