Progesterone cream will help some . . . but suppositories, oral meds or progesterone injections are truly the best treatment for a luteal phase defect. Is there an on-call doctor that you might be able to talk to over the telephone . . . maybe s/he could just call something into your local pharmacy?
Suppositoris are the stronest thing that you could take. They absorb more efficiently and quickly into your system
I’m so sorry about your loss!
You will need prescription progesterone suppositories. The stuff they sell over the counter simply doesn’t have enough progesterone to be effective (if you get the GOOD stuff, it only has 450mg of progesterone per ounce and you may have a 2-4 oz tube). The prescription stuff has 100-200mg of progesterone per suppository and you generally take that 2x daily (total 200-400mg daily). So, you would essentially have to dump at least half of the bottle on you in order to have even close to the same level (that’s of course provided that the packaging is accurate- OTC stuff isn’t regulated).
I also have low progesterone and a short luteal phase. I tried OTC progesterone a number of times and all it made me do was spot for 5 days before AF came (and it didn’t really extend my luteal phase at all- just the stupid spotting). I was put on 200mg of suppositories by my doctor and my luteal phase went from 7-9 days to 13 days. The stuff the doctor gives you is much more effective.
You could try it, though, and hopefully it will work better for you than for me. Maybe your doctor can prescribe you something on Monday that you can start taking that day.
Best of luck to you and lots of baby dust!!!
