You seemed to hit on something important, the prior back surgeries means you are a chronic pain patient. This would lesson your daily physical activity so that when you do eat it is put on as calories because now your metabolism is slower. So even if you are eating less, it doesn’t matter because your metabolism is very slow. The only way to solve this is to become more physically active. Also depression can cause you to eat more, just something more to think about.
P.S. did you know that you posted this same question twice?
polysystic ovary disease? I dont know if thats whats going on with you but I watched a show recently about it and extreme weight gain was a main side effect.
Metabolism slowing down due to age?
i know someone who did that, the Dr. tested them for everything and then just said there a dramtic drop in the metabolism after 30, so this might be your promble!
I suggest going to a good Health Food store and get a high quality freeze-dried bovine glandular (the mixed glandular, not thyroid only) supplement.
Take the maximum dosage.
It will naturally help your thyroid in a balanced way.
Also, try doing some colon cleansing. Raw vegan diet, juicing, Kombucha, pro-biotics…
I have heard that when someone’s Liver is in accute stress that the Thyroid steps in to "help" the Liver and that Thyroid nodules can be a sign of Liver problems. High cholesterol level also is a sign of Liver problems.
Get your Liver tested. Stay off of transfat and hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated oils. Eat a lot of good fats like raw avocado, raw coconut oil, raw walnuts, hemp seed oil, cod liver oil…
Good Luck.
