Hot flushes in a teenager?
Lately I’ve been getting what people tell me are hot flushes. I started to notice it during the hot weather in East Anglia several weeks ago. I felt like my body was suddenly losing its ability to regulate its temperature. I thought it was just because of the heat and ignored it, but people are telling me it’s not normal, and today I had two or three more even though it’s cooled off. I’ve read that hot flushes in teenagers are normal in moments of anxiety, panic, anger or embarrassment, but I wasn’t experiencing those emotions at the time, although I was feeling very sad.
My periods are regular and I’m due for my next one in two weeks. I’m only 17, so I think an early menopause is quite unlikely.
What could be causing these? Are they dangerous? Should I speak to my doctor?

It’s normal. You’re right–hot flushes at any age are normal when feeling panic or anxiety, or being hot, as it is now. Only worry if you start having some other problems, like a fever, or no more periods, or nausea, or headaches. Hot flushes in and of themselves are not worrisome, and they’re quite common.
