How long do I have to wait to try to get pregnant after taking Provera?
I have been taking provera to have a menstrual period. I want to become pregnant, and am curious if it should be out of your system for a certain amount of time before trying. I have heard provera can be very harmful to a fetus, and wanted to know how long provera stays in your system…

All Provera does is make you have a period. After you complete the course (usually 5, 7 or 10 days) or while you are still taking them you should start your period. Then it is like a normal cycle. You wait to ovulate and then hopefully have sex at the right time and get pregnant. The problem is that if you having to take Provera for a period then you aren’t ovulating. You MUST ovulate to have a period and since you are having to take the Provera for a period then you aren’t ovulating. The Provera is out of your system as soon as your period begins usually. If you are going to the doctor about not having a period ask him/her to see if you are ovulating. This will probably mean having ultrasounds (quick and not painful at all) regularly throughout your cycle and/or charting your basal body temperature. Basal body temperature (BBT) is cheap and noninvasive. All you do is buy a basal body thermometer (around $7-$10) and take your temperature first thing in the morning when you wake up. You must take it at the same time every morning and take it before you do anything except reach for the thermometer. When and if you ovulate your temperature will rise and stay up until you get your period or find out you are pregnant. I have been taking my BBT for right at 2 years now and I found out I was ovulating very irregularly (like 1-2 times a year). So when I went to the doctor for help in trying to conceive I showed him my charts and there was no question I wasn’t ovulating so he was able to go straight to other testing without having to go through several ultrasounds first. I am now on clomid and so far I have ovulated both times. I also wanted to mention that most women who don’t ovulate or have periods on their own or at least regularly have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) so that should be checked out too. Good luck! Email me if you have any more questions and I will be glad to help all I can.
I don’t have a clue hun… talk to your Dr.
I had a friend who didnt have a period so she was giving some pills maybe for 5 days to start her period but when she got through with them he put her on clomid and she got pregnant I wish I knew what kind he gave her but do a search on the net to see whats is being said also got to them forum that does discussion and also have chat I’m assuming it will be someone with the same problem
provera is doing nothing to help you get pregnant. most women take provera because they dont ovulate-how do you expect to get pregnant if you dont ovulate?? provera wont hurt a baby if you happen to magically conceive but chances are you are going to need clomid or other ovulation induction agent. go back to the doc that gives you the provera for some education on your condition
i got pregnant while taking it on day 15 of my period, no side effect and had a healthy boy
