I had female surgery 3 years at the age of 34 and I have required either hormone replacement therapy OR anti-depressants ever since. My Dr. says I have "remnants" of ovaries left that do not function. I hate that I need these meds, but I have come to the realization that I want to be happy, and that if this is what I need, then I will take them. My problem is the side effects. The HRT causes horrible calf sensations. I understand this is from blood clots. One burst open in my calf last year and I was on crutches for several days. It was very painful. The problem with the anti-depressants is that I became addicted to effexor, which was horrible to get off of. While I was taking the effexor, I felt jittery and I sweated all day long. Not attractive or comfortable! It was so embarrasing. So, I’m not sure what to do. If I take nothing, I feel very down, depressed and worthless. I have not been able to work full time for several months and I need to fix this so I can earn a living!

Birth control ? ?

I am getting married in March and was wondering how early I need to start on birth control and which is the most safest one out there ( I kinda used to be against birth control). We are planning on having kids in about 2-3 years. Thanks!!

My mom is 53 almost 54 years old. A few days ago she got a period after not having one in 3 years. She told me it was all of the symptoms of a normal period. About 4 days long and normal cramps. But just to be on the safe side she made an appointment with her gynocologist to check and see what is going on. I am just worried it might be something more severe. Has anyone had this happen to them?

I was on HRT for 3 years and stop. I am getting very bad hot flashes. I don’t want to go back on HRT. Also, have gain 10 kgs in this 3 years period. Any other tablets to help me overcome this hot flashes.

Is it Menopause or not?

Ok, Dr’s say I’m not going through menopause, yet I am having all the freaking symptoms. The women in my family mostly started in their 30′s. I’m 35 and been going through these symptoms for the last 3 years. I’ve even seen a gyn-specialist and according to their results; I’m not going through menopause, yet no explanation as to what is they supposedly think it is.
Thank you Amy. At least I don’t feel like its in my head.

I had a demiroid cyst along with one of my ovaries removed 3 years ago. Should i be worried about getting another one on my good ovary ? Should i be worried about my fertility??

I am 27 and was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago after having my second abdominal surgery to remove cysts off of my ovaries and to remove scar tissue. Now, again, I am having the same symptoms but this time the pain is MUCH worse. Today I had an ultrasound, both external and internal. The pain is now almost unbearable. I don’t have any children of my own yet, but after 11 years of birth control, I don’t want to be on them again. Do I have any other options?

Have you noticed that in every generation, the children are getting bigger and developing earlier than the previous generation? I see high school girls that have bodies like barbie dolls and the boys look like pro wrestlers. I don’t remember seeing girls like that when I was in high school.

My opinion is that it comes from milk, beef, and chicken. The hormones and steroids they feed the cows and chickens to produce more milk and grow faster is entering our bodies directly as we eat them. I saw a show on Discovery Ch. that says a chicken can be fully grown in 30 to 45 days. Incredible! Girls are hitting puberty 3 years earlier than just 50 years ago. Average height in 1960 was 5’8" (men) and 5’3" (women), now it’s 5’9 1/2" and 5’4", respectively. And average male weight went from 166 lbs to 191 lbs. A 25 lb. increase! Some blame the fast food industry, but I think it’s the hormones.

What do you think?
Is it a good thing or a bad thing for the human race? I don’t see it affecting adults so much, except for increased body weight and possibly the health problems that go along with that. But I can see it clearly in our children. I there anything we can do to stop it? Do we even want to?

Hormones are a crazy thing,a nd hard for me to keep straight. I’m not sure if the hormones in menopause medications would make it harder or easier to conceive. I’m going on 3 years of trying, and I was thinking about trying that but I wanted to make sure it had a chance of working before I tried it. Thanks!

I took Yasmin for 3 years 18-21 and have now been off of it for 1 full year. I have horrible acne, increased facial hair growth, and weight gain. I have been tested for PCOS….doc says I don’t have it. But acne is not something that runs in my family. Did anyone else have this problem? What are opinions on Yasmin 28 and BC in general? What herbs can I take to make my hormones balance themselves out. How do they work?

I’m relatively healthy, married and 26. For the past 3 years, I’ve begun spotting about 1 day before my period. From what I’ve read, it can be caused by low progesterone, endometriosis or fibroids. I think that I’m having a difficult time getting pregnant because of low progesterone which can affect implantation into my uterus. What are some natural solutions I can do? I don’t want to take prescriptions or use the progesterone cream.
