Trying to understand the menopause?

I’m an 18 year old student, so obviously not of the menopause age, but my mum gave birth to me when she was quite old and I think she is of the menopause age (late 40s)
She is approaching the age where she has to think about the menopause and she keeps worrying about having hot flushes, sudden heavy bleeding, that sort of thing. She is also worried about her skin. She goes on about how she had really bad acne as a teen and how she is worried it will come back again. It’s like she’s paranoid.

I have looked online for information about the menopause but it’s all really confusing and different websites say different things. Could someone please please explain to me what the menopause is, what the side effects my mum is likely to get, if she is going to get acne when she hits the menopause and are there are treatments she could take?
I really want to help my mum, it’s not like her to be so worried and agitated, but she won’t find out about the menopause and asking her anything gets my head snapped off. I’m hoping if I understand it a bit better I can help my mum to.

Thank you

One of my co workers came across some Maxi Pads from a lady that works with us. She is in her 40s or 50s. Why would she need Maxi pads?

Could menopause cause thowing up?

I have read tons of resolved answers and all over internet about symptoms of pre menopause. One person said they ‘felt like throwing up sometimes’. I am actually experiencing what is very much like morning sickness, every morning – actually losing whatever I’ve put in – even if its just a few sips of water! NO, I’m not pregnant! Help! Am I the only one?
Yes, I’ve made dr app, but its not til December.
I’m 45, but have been a smoker on and off since a teen and my mom and sis started in late 40s. I had hot flashes, more headaches than usual, bad taste in mouth, dryness, periods more often and some more fun symptoms!

Need guidance from wives in their 40s?

Anyone feel like they want out of their marriage. We have had a number of problems, never ever cheating involved. Have two kids, one is still 11. We have gone to counseling, are still going, etc. Just recently feel as though I am dying to get out. Move on. I still love him but a lot less. He is driving me crazy with all of the requests, "Can you get me this, get me that?" It did not matter before that he did not have his college degree and now it is bothering me. When he gets angry, he gets too angry. I just want peace and to raise my son in a different atmosphere. SO…is this just the natural hormonal imbalance of being in your 40s and being in perimenopause. Sometimes I feel like I cannot breathe and cannot stand him. He does not know I feel this way and I fall asleep dreaming about my "escape" from this house. I am part time and am limited by my income right now so I cannot just walk away.

Most of the women I know who didn’t have kids looked slim and youthful into their 40s and 50s. Is this always or often the case?

I am only in my early 40s but I am showing signs of perimenopause. I am wondering when is the best time of the month to test my hormone levels? Also is it even worth the trouble? I will be going to my regular doctor to also check that it is not something completely different going on.

I had at the age of 11. When am I supposed to have menopause? Right now there was no sign of it and I m in my early 40s. I am very health and work out everyday. Thanks

So today I was thinking, and it occurred to me that if people were dying in their 40s and 50s back in the day, and most women in today’s times go through menopause in their 40s and 50s, would they have gone through menopause right before they ended up dying? Would they have gone through it at a younger age? Would they have had menopause at all?

Hey…
I’m in perimenopause and have skipped 3 periods in the last 6 months. About a month ago I started having cramps at night that have just not stopped. It’s been 8 weeks on Tuesday since my last period. Has anyone else been irritated by seemingly neverending cramps in their 40s or 50s? Thanks!!

Does this sound like perimenopause?

37-year-old female. Until last year, my periods would last two days a month and would be exactly 28 days apart. Since October of last year, my periods are only 18 to 24 hours a month, relatively light, and 15-30 days’ apart. Also, eight hours before my period starts, I plunge into a deep depression with lots of crying (never happened before). My gyn *thinks* I may be in the very beginnings of perimenopause, yet my female hormones check out moderately normal (with a rather high testosterone level). Does it sound like I’m starting to go through the change?

(Both my grandparents went through the change in their early 40s, but my mother who died at 54 was still having her periods).
Am also having hot flashes as well.
