i’m 17 and i’ve never been to a gyno. I went to a walk in medical center for an ear infection and she let me know that they do gynecological exams and other stuff. it caught my attention because i think i might have BV, and recently started getting white clumpy discharge as well as itching/burning so I might have a yeast infection on top of it, too. (sucks, i’m not even sexually active). Anyway, i am scared about my first exam, and i wanted to know if there is any disadvantage to going to a walk in clinic over a strictly gynecological clinic? are they less qualified? or is everyone equally qualified to do gynecological exams? these symptoms are very bothersome and i really really don’t want to be misdiagnosed.

ps, can you have 2 infections on top of each other? ugh that makes me feel so nasty.

I am in my early twenties, constantly getting vaginal infections, am irritated and red every day of my life, missing periods, and intercourse with my fiance is impossible because my skin is so thin it rips. My gyno says there is no doubt i am seriously lacking estrogen- but he does not believe in perscribing hormones due to endometrial cancer risk. All i can do is take birth control pills and premarin topical cream. This is not enough, because i only am getting minor releif. I am planning on marriage soon, and hoping to start a family in the next few years. Will having low estrogen now pose a problem for when i want to conceive? How can i even have a sexual relationship with my husband if i am always so sore? Is it really that dangerous to take estrogen? or should i find a doctor who can perscribe it for me? I don’t want the risk of cancer, but I’d like to be able to live a normal life. If i were given hormones for treatment would i have to take it forever, or temporarily? Help!

I have a concerning Vaginal Discharge?

I’ve been dealing with a white, sour smelling discharge for maybe 2 years now. It isn’t accompanied by iching or burning or anything but a bad smell. I went to the Gyno, they tested it for yeast and bacteria. They basically perforned a pap smear, and it came out clean.

Unfortunately, this dicharge coats the inner lips of my vagina, around the opening, and all inside of it! It really smells awful and it gets on my underwear. It just doesn’t seem normal! What is up?!

Any idea what this could be? I am a 16 year old virgin.

sorry, it’s a strange question lol. i just moved into my dorm and i feel like i have the awful bacterial vaginosis! on the campus website, it says if i make an appoitment, they will deal with gynecological problems, for a fee. should i take a visit? would it be weird? would it be like visiting a normal gyno? or should i just wait and make an appointment with my primary physician? its just im here and really wanna get rid of this bv!

and my face is flushed right now. I’m 22, and I was having some problems burning down there, no bladder or vaginal infections. My gyno said I could be low on estrogen, and so gave me estrace cream. I used it tonight with no problems, it helped me feel better down there..BUT now I feel really warm and kinda feverish, my face feels hot and is flushing a bit..My mom said it’s my body adjusting, but I don’t know? I’m kinda worried!!!

Feminine itching..pain..burning.. HELP!!!?

A few weeks back I went to my gyno and found out I had a yeast infection (my second in 2 years). I was prescribed a Diflucan and took it a few days later. The last time I had a yeast infection, due to candida, the Diflucan worked wonders. This time, NOTHING!

The area around my vagina is red, sore, itchy. There’s dry skin. It’s even flaking and I’m "sticking" to myself. :-( I feel so embarassed even typing this but I’m at my wits end! I’ve been having more discharge than normal, so much so that I need to wear pantyliners and change them often. I had a slight tear above my vagina and when I scratch (bad habit of scratching) it sometimes bleeds slightly.

I don’t know what is going on! I’m scared and freaking out. Is this more than a yeast infection?? What could it be?? Please only serious answers… :-( I’ve only been with ONE person.. any help is greatly appreciated! :-(
Also, I have the razor bumps on the area around my pubic hair and I’m scared to shave now. Could shaving have something to do with this too?? I should have mentioned the discharge is normally a creamy white or clear color.. but sometimes it leaves a yellow color in the panty liner.. and my urine has been very yellow at times as well.
Yes I plan to go to the doctor but I need to know what could be wrong or if this sounds like a yeast infection that got worse due to scratching :( :( :(
Thank you for the responses.. I’m so scared.. are there any std’s or serious illness it could be?? I’m hoping it is just a very bad yeast infection.. I mean the doctor said that’s what it was 3 weeks ago but blah…
I was prescribed Diflucan this time was well. I did not take it on my own. It’s one pill and I took it several weeks ago.

I recently went to my gyno after TTC for 6 months with my husband. I’m 28 yrs old and my cycles have always been long and irregular (approx. 45 days between). I went to the gyno for the first time for a pap smear and I told her this. Basically without asking me any case history at all… her solution was for a sperm count and blood test which is fine. Then she said quickly in a jumble of words that I wasn’t ovulating and my luteal phase was all wrong and that immediately after my next period were doing an HSG test and starting on Femera. She didn’t talk about the risks and made me feel very uncomfortable since I don’t take prescription drugs or therapies lightly and like to usually take the more natural route unless completely necessary. It’s only been 4 cycles of period since we started trying! I was not on BC before trying so she wasn’t waiting for hormones to balance out or anything. Many women in my family have had very irregular cycles and have gotten pregnant fine. Should I suck it up and trust my doc and go with the hsg and femera or keep trying naturally for a little longer? I’m not sure how much of a big deal doing the femera route is.
Also she said she didn’t think I was ovulating which is weird because she is basing that just off the fact that my cycle is long and no other information. Plus I think I have felt myself ovulating before.

Feminine Itching Problem!?

hi, i had a question about my itching "down there"
in october i went to the gyno to get it checked out.. i had an infection so i took medicine for 7 days..

this month it came back, so i went back and i got more medicine but in vaginal ovules for 3 nights.

i stopped the ovules on sunday, and last night the itching was so unbearable i only got a couple hours of sleep..
ive been using a vinegar/water solution and just recently bought vagasil..should this help??

the itching is unbearable!!!

Let me start by saying I already have been to my gyno for an annual check up and she did not seem concerned about the severe vaginal dryness I was having. However, I had a bacteria infection at the time so maybe she just didn’t believe me as to how dry it actually gets. The bacteria infections were a problem for a while as a result of a weakend immune system from Lyme Disease. (I am on antibiotics for the Lyme and many probiotics, and don’t think those are the cause because this started well before the antibiotics.)

Now a few months later, I am still having this problem and I am beginning to realize this isn’t getting better and it’s not how I want to live!

My vaginal area has been completely dry for months. I no longer have a sex life because it is painful, even if I am lubricated, which seems almost impossible. When I say dry, I mean it literally has no moisture what so ever all day long. I don’t even have an odor.

It gets sore during the day as I walk around. I have gotten in the habit of using vagisal cream, because sometimes it does feel itchy.

Sometimes right before my period I get what feels like a in-grown hair lump on it, but more on the inside, not where a ingrown hair would be. That lasts a day or so and goes away. Since I am not sexually active, I’m pretty confident it’s not an STD.

Then for the last two months when my period comes I feel burning and stinging in that area. Soap makes it sting and wiping is painful. If I wasn’t bleeding because of my period, I would think I was cut or something. There is nothing I can see on it that would cause this. The vagina itself just looks very inflammed.

So, as far as the dryness goes, could that cause the lumps and soreness I was referring to and can anyone recommend what to do, if anything, cuz my doctor didn’t seem to think it was a big deal.

And is this thing that’s happening during my menstrual cycle in anyway normal and maybe something common that I just have never experienced before, or should I take another trip to my doctor and insist I am having a problem?

I am a 30 year old female with no children and I have been on the pill for many many years.

Birth-control?

How do I get my mom to get me on birth control? My mom and I are not open with each other about this kind of thing. And about a year ago when I was at the gyno, I was still a virgin so my dr. and I did not really discuss bc, but since then I have had sex, and want to be put on bc. But I don’t know how to ask her.
I am 17 years old.
I know bc is not 100% effective, I just want to be more safe than just using condoms.

Heavy/Painful menstual cycle?

My menstrual cycle is weird.

It’s irregular, most times lasts longer than a week, (the record is three) and is really embarassing because it’s so heavy and unpredictable. I keep ‘personals’ with me all the time, and there’s always a change of clothes in my car, just in case, but it’s really just…embarassing.

I get huge blood clots, it almost looks like chunks of my uterus are coming out, and it’s very painful. It feels like someone’s ripping out my intestines and tying them in knots. Most of the time, it’s way too painful for me to move much, and I take Ibuprofin like candy, but I still move around like an arthritic old woman.

I’ve been to the Gyno, but she says the pain is normal, and I’m just exaggerating it, and all girls have some issues with blood clots. She brushes off all my questions like they’re nothing, while I’m pale and sick looking from the pain and the pills and the bleeding.

I’m not a ‘free spirit’ by any means, so I know it can’t be an ‘invasive’ issue.

What is a chemical pregnancy and how does it work?

I took an at home pregnancy test last week and tested positive, but then had my period a few days later. I would have conceived between September 20th and 24th, and my period came 6 days ago. I started reading up on this and found a lot of questions about chemical pregnancies. How do they happen? And how long will the pregnancy hormone stay in my system if the egg has already been flushed out? I can’t get into my gyno until next week and I need to know what’s going on now.

For the last 5 months I have been getting my period every 40 to 50 days versus my usual 28 to 32 days. My gyno says I am not producing enough Progesterone and should perhaps take a pill called "Provera" to help with this and to regulate my period again. Honestly I am hoping that it goes back to the way it use to be without having to take any pills. I did not have a good experience with birth control so I am very hesitant in taking any hormones. I would rather do something natural. Perhaps a slight change in diet, more exercise, Yoga, aromatherapy..things of this nature which I hear can help. I suffer from IBS and GERD so I am almost certain that the change in diet and lifestyle I have had to make over the last year or so have contributed to these irregular periods. I was fairly sick over the last year as I tried to get control of my IBS and GERD, which have both improved greatly in the last year. My period seems to be the problem now, which in turn is making my GERD and IBS act up.

Is pain during your first gynecological exam normal?

I went to my first gynecological exam today because I had the signs of a yeast infection. I have never gone before because I’m young and still a virgin. When we got to the part with the speculum it was so painful, I almost started crying, he tried the smaller one and he tried three times but I couldn’t take the pain. I shouldn’t have asked him at the end of the exam if it was normal but I didn’t. So is this normal? Is the pain simply because of the infection? I also feel swollen from using Monistat which was probably the biggest mistake of my life. (Apparently Monistat is awful and hurts a lot more women than cures them.) And I took Monistat before seeing my gyno in hopes of curing myself but it just burned like crazy and made me swollen and I still hurt from using is 5 days ago. Please someone help me.

im 25 and haven’t had a period in about 2 years. my fiance and i are trying to get pregnant. we have been trying for 4 years. i have gone to my gyno and she ran all the blood tests she could and did a pelvic ultrasound all of which came out normal. and she wanted to stick me on birth control pills. i am charting my bbt again so i can take it to an re that we have decided to see in 6 months. i have charted b4 but with no periods i felt it was pointless. anyways my question is will progesterone cream help me have a period? and i know it doesn’t make u ovulate, that i would need clomid for, but could i ovulate on my own once ive had a few periods? even if i don’t im mostly wanting to shed the old lining so that when i begin clomid i have a healthy endometrial lining.thank you to all for any help/advice/experience you can give.
