I eventually want to do something in Obstetrics. I am currently in a 4-year university. I don’t really want to be a nurse. Sonography sounds like a lot of fun, but they only need 2 year degrees and don’t have a very high salary. Ideas?

Lately my left ovary has been hurting lately. Its been hurting bout a couple weeks before my period comes on Its like a throbbing pain and it hurts so bad sometimes that the pain travels to my knee. Do ya’ll think it’s anything serious? Would really appreciate a nurse or doc.

I hada pelvic ultrasound today and the nurse had a VERY hard time finding my right ovary. She found the left one very quickly and had to literally search for the right one. She said it was small and kind of displaced. She asked me if I had ever had surgery on it. I have not had anything like that. Is this bad? Could this be the reason my husband and I are having trouble conceiving? I don’t go back to my doctor until the end of the month and I am dying to know something now.

I’ve recently got the contraceptive injection and I came off my period the day before I got it.
I forgot to ask the nurse how long it will take since I got it when I wasn’t on my period. Does anyone know how long it will take until its effective?

I am a 19-year-old female, and I went to get my yearly gynecological exam a few weeks ago. A medical student asked me the initial questions that are asked before the exam is usually performed, and when the doctor came in to perform the exam, the medical student as well as a nurse were both in the room, which was not okay with me and the doctor did not ask if I was comfortable with this. They both even looked at what was going on, and I burst into tears because I was so uncomfortable. I was just wondering if this was legal or okay because I was most definitely not comfortable with it.

I went to the hospital because I keep getting ovarian cysts and they told me to get birth control. When I went to the gynecologist the nurse and doctor were actually pretty mean to me and they thought I just wanted birth control for sex and didn’t listen to anything I had to say about the cysts. They just gave me a three month sample of Loestrin. I believe it worked at first, but now I’m on the third month and I’m pretty sure I have another cysts. What brand of birth control will help stop these?

I have re-current bladder infections (UTI’s) and I was taught in school that if someone has a bladder infection they can try to treat it on their own if they push the cranberry pills and lots of fluids. However, on a recent call to my doctor (rather nurse), I was informed that if I have an actual bladder infection, the only way to treat it is by taking antibiotics.

I am a 25 year old virgin and visited the gynecologist for the first time. I told the doctor I had not had sex and was in for the routine check-up. She said she wouldn’t do a pap smear on me since I wasn’t sexually active but would do the rest of the exam. The moment the doctor inserted the speculum I was in such pain I was on the verge of tears. I told her it hurt and she said "OK, let’s just skip that part." Next, she inserted her fingers to check the uterus and ovaries and once again, this hurt SO bad that I was going to cry and as soon as I told her she just stopped what she was doing.
She didn’t give me an explanation as to why it hurt so bad and instead just stopped and when I asked if everything was ok she said my cervix looks fine "from what I could see, but I didn’t have a chance to see much.." I asked the nurse why it hurt and the nurse said since I was a virgin my hymen is intact.
Is it normal for this much pain? I literally was still feeling some soreness hours after the exam. Also, I don’t think the doctor really even examined me since she stopped everything she was doing when I said it hurt. I’ve talked to friends about this and they said it really depends on the doctor and that I should find a different one. I’m concerned maybe something is wrong with me because it hurt so bad?

I am interested in becoming an obstetrics nurse but don’t know much about education requirements. Is a regular bachelor of nursing enough to qualify me to be an obstetrics nurse? What schools are the best for that career preparation?

I have already completed one year of school, so I’m looking for a program that accepts transfer students and has a good reputation. Any suggestions?

This is interesting to me cause I always wanted to be in the medical field, without becoming a doctor or a nurse. How is this field different from regular physical therapy?
