My step-sister is going to turn 20 next month.
She is of average weight, is not hairy, doesn’t have period pains, has regular periods, no history of PCOS in family, good diet, not much exercise, she has never had irregular periods before, she has clinical depression, she isn’t losing any hair from her head, she has normal blood pressure & isn’t diabetic as far as I know.
She had her periods from the age of 11. Her periods are very regular & she is generally a healthy person overall.
However, for the first time (this week) she has had her periods 4 days late. In addition, her periods are VERY light, almost as though she’s not even menstruating!
She isn’t feeling any pain or anuthing, but this is very unusual.
Stress does not affect her periods & her diet is perfectly normal.
What could be wrong with her?
Is it PCOS or is it premature menopause?
How would she know which one she’s got & how would a doctor diagnose a person with PCOS or premature menopause?
SHE IS NOT PREGANAT – SHE IS NOT SEXUALLY ACTIVE

i am confused, as i thought fibroids were caused by too much estrogen, and PCOS caused by too little estrogen and too much testosterone.

I have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and have been on metformin for the past three months to help regulate my hormone levels (I am not diabetic). I am trying to get pregnant, so my doctor has now added clomid and estradiol to the mix. Has anyone heard of these combinations – is it successful for most people? Thanks for your feedbacks.

My husband and I have been TTC for over a year now. I was recently diagnosed w/ PCOS by a fertility specialist, even though I don’t look like the typical person. My periods have always been irregular and I’ve only had 2 periods over the past year. I finished my round of Provera 3 days ago and have not started my period. How long does it usually take? I’ve seen a variety of answers and even some people saying that it didn’t induce a period.

Here’s a little background aboutme….
I am ttc but haven’t gotten my period since April 2010. I was diagnosed with PCOS and was prescribed provera to induce a period and then I was told to take Chlomid cd 5-9. I never got my period after finishing the provera but about a week after, my nipples have become extremely sore and my breast have become swollen. Is there a chance that I might have ovulated while on Provera and got pregnant?

I was diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor found out that I’m most likely not ovulating. Well I was referred to an ob/gyn but there is also a fertility clinic as part of our military hospital system. I was wondering what is the difference? I really only need to be put on clomid most likely. What do they do at a fertility clinic that they don’t do at the ob/gyn?? I want to make sure I’m going to the right place.

Are there any stats (please include links if you have them)? What percentage of women with PCOS will be able to conceive without fertility treatment? And what percentage will be able to conceive WITH fertility treatment?
Also does anyone have any personal stories about their own experiences with PCOS and conception?
