I had surgery back in November 2010 to remove my one remaining ovary. (I had a partial hyst when I was 22) Now I am in menopause and I take Enjuvia (hormones) I am taking double the maximum dose per my doctor because the max dose was not working so he told me to double it. I am really concerned about this because of the breast cancer risk. Are there any natural ways that actually work to control the symptoms of menopause? I have run out of the Enjuvia before and if I don’t take it I literally feel like I am dying, I have severe anxiety attacks and hot flashes so severe that I seriously wish I would die, dizziness, and headaches. It really is awful. Any advice is much appreciated, Ive tried talking to my doctor but he says I need to stay on the Enjuvia, I swear the makers of Enjuvia are paying him to prescribe it! Thank you in advance for any advice given.

During menopause, women often experience uncomfortable symptoms. Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, irregular, changes in bleeding and loss of sexual desire are some of the most common. Recently, studies have shown that hormone replacement therapy is not as safe as originally believed, so many women are looking to natural remedies with a great deal of success.

Black coho sh has been used for centuries to help women with menopausal symptoms, and is most effective in treating hot flashes. It seems to have some ability to mimic estrogen in the body, relieving the hot flashes and mood swings that plague so many women.

Limiting caffeine will help with your symptoms as well. Herbal teas, and using onion, garlic and lemon instead of salt should help as well. One study at UCLA noted that garlic halted the advance of heart disease in post-menopausal women.

Soy, shown to be beneficial in so many areas, helps with menopausal symptoms as well. Soy has a natural estrogen-like compound that helps balance hormones. Chickpeas, lentils and tofu will provide the same benefits. Complex carbohydrates like brown rice will also help regulate the amount of estrogen in your system.

Ensuring that you are receiving a sufficient amount of essential fatty acids by eating oils, nuts, seeds and oily fish will help relieve vaginal dryness and keep the skin supple.

For the last week or two I’ve had on and off type pain and it bothers me every day and is sometimes very sharp. I heard that most cysts go away by themselves (mine got smaller) but I’m concerned about ovarian cancer and there’s a huge cancer history in my family but so far no ovarian cancer and my hysterectomy was not for cancer. I read that some benign cysts will require treatment in that they do not go away by themselves, and in quite rare cases, others may be cancerous. I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts about five or six years after my (TVH/kept both ovaries) total vaginal hysterectomy. I didn’t have symptoms of ovarian cysts when they were first diagnosed and the doctor ordered the ultrasound and kept an eye on the cysts with updated ultrasounds. The last ultrasound about three years ago showed the cysts got small enough and I didn’t need further ultrasounds.

1. Anyone have advice on dealing with the pain and would heat help if surgery isn’t indicated?

2. If it’s not gas or appendicitis I’m experiencing does anyone know what can be done for them besides taking out the ovary?

One doctor I didn’t like or agree with recommended I get my ovaries removed because of the history of cysts and I didn’t see him for that problem and he refused to help me with why I went in there and think he was just trying to get more money (the wait was over 3 hours in his office).Three other doctors agreed to not take out my ovaries including my surgeon if it wasn’t cancerous as it could prevent me from going into surgical menopause.

3. I’ve never had symptoms of menopause but does anyone know if estrogen if needed again would help prevent the cysts from getting bigger if present again or would it just feed ovarian cysts?
I was put on the estrogen patch 5 years later because my blood work showed I was low on estrogen and I didn’t have any symptoms of menopause. I was taken off the estrogen patch after it was thought that the narcotic pain meds I was taking for disc injury and muscle spasms could have caused the abnormality of the amount of estrogen in my system. Thanks in advance.

I belonged to the group Beginning Menopause. I joined the group while experiencing some horrific , yet normal symptoms of menopause. After several weeks of whining and complaining I chose to seek treatment options as I was nearly suicidal. I made an appointment with my licensed physician and ultimately made the decision to try bio identical hormone therapy. The therapy is legal and I found great relief from my symptoms and am back to normal. I have stated this fact on the forum to perhaps enlighten other women to their right to choose the option of this treatment. I stated my experience and my results in using bio identicals. Yesterday I was asked several questions on the forum regarding cost, insurance etc… by members of the group and I answered these questions and have now been banned from the group by the moderator after she sent out a lengthy post slamming me. Calling me things like "crazed, zealous" and worst of all "a blond bombshell" – I am NOT blond ! I want to know how and why I was banned from a group for simply sharing with others the knowledge and experiences I have had?

Has anyone tried Maca?

I am presently taking black cohosh and wild yam root to alleviate symptoms of menopause. I am having to take large quantities to get any relief.
Maca has a nice reviews but would like to hear from someone that has actually used it for menopausal symptoms.

BTW …I am not a HRT candidate as I have had 2 heart attacks.

menopause at age 15? is it possible?

I am only 15 years old but I am experiencing symptoms of menopause. I’ve had several hotflashes, night sweats, and I suffer from insomnia. I also haven’t had my period for 3 months. Any explanations?

A) bring on symptoms of menopause
B) reduce the risk of breast cancer
C) prevent the synthesis of estrogen
D) increase the risk of osteoporosis
E) all of the above

can a 17 year old end up with menopause?

I’m 17, and i did look up some symptoms of menopause because of the irregularities I’ve been experiencing. So i got curious, and I’m suspecting i might be ending up with menopause anytime soon… so, is it possible for a teenager to end up with menopause? In jan, my period only lasted for around 4 days.. Feb around 3. March around 2… and now its around just one day and it already stopped. So im kind of confused.

Also, if a girl hits menopause, is it still possible to get pregnant? i found many different answers some saying no while other say yes.. so im kind of confused.

thanks a whole bunch in advance.

Low-Ogestrel ® Tablets (norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets USP, 0.3 mg/0.03 mg)…

Those are the kind of birth control pills my doctors want me to keep taking since undergoing radiation and chemo for cervical cancer. They say theres absolutely no way I could have escaped menopause although I have no reason to think I am in menopause, I have no symptoms.

Anyways my real question is, is this dose of estrogen and hormone levels actually enough to prevent me from getting osteoporosis, heart disease or other things that happen with menopause?

Also I am wondering if those risks really still apply to me since it would be based on hormonal factors, and I am still pretty young. I don’t know if the menopause itself puts me at risk or if age is the risk.

Advice? Is this pill sufficient? Is it normal that I would have no symptoms of menopause just from taking this pill?

Menopause has been called the change for decades, women don’t discuss it & so when IT happens it’s crippling, to say the least!

My mother SUFFERED from it tremendously & always stated: "It’s just a CHANGE all women must go through!"

Change is an understatement. From what I’ve read & seen first hand, below are SOME of the menopausal symptoms:

PMS, stress, depression/anxiety, panic attacks, extremely moody, rage, body odor, negative thoughts, irrational thoughts, suicidal thoughts, lack of sexual desire, vaginal dryness, itching, hair loss/balding, halitosis, isolation, fear… etc are SOME of the DEVASTATING symptoms of menopause, why must women experience these relentless symptoms?

Do I have menopause at sixteen?

I’m a sixteen year old girl, and I’m getting symptoms of menopause.

For eight months now, I haven’t had a period or even spotting, and for no apparent cause.
I’m also getting several other symptoms of menopause, such as several random dark hairs on my cheeks/chin, hot flashes and even clamminess on occasion.

I’m suspecting it might be a cyst, as my aunt had once had an ovarian cyst that had turned cancerous and eventually caused sterility at the age of 19. Still, I’m unsure if a cyst would be the problem. Before this year, I rarely had any problems with my cycle other than occasional pain AFTER a period, not before or during. Could this have anything to do with it?

I am going to see a OBGYN for the first time in September, so that will probably give me a definite answer.

Still, do you think menopause at 16 is possible?
If so, why, and is there a name for what I’m going through?
@redtiger: No, I’m not generally stressed, and I very rarely exercise, to be truthful. I don’t diet, and I am barely overweight though definitely not obese or even unhealthy. I doubt any of those factors are causing it, so I’m pretty clueless. :[

Menopause and Itchiness?

I’m 49 and just starting to experience the early symptoms of menopause. In the last month or two, I have begun to feel a real itchiness, although I cannot find any rashes or other visible cause for such. My feet, hands, and scalp tend to itch the most, and it can drive me nuts at times!

A friend suggested that such itchiness can actually be one of the symptoms of menopause. Is this true? Has anyone else ever experienced this, and if so, can you can share anything about your experience? Is there anything that can be done to help alleviate this itchy feeling?

Thanks!

Help with Menopause?

I’m starting to have symptoms of Menopause.
I’m only 41 but I had a hysterectomy when I was 30.
I still have 1 ovary.
But I’m dealing with moodiness alot more now than ever. And there is no good reason for my moodiness, everything in my life is absolutely perfect. I’m happier now than I’ve ever been.
I also deal with just the over-all not feeling well.
I’ve never been able to gain weight, I’ve always been under weight….just is natural in my family.
And now I’ve been putting on weight, which at first was great. But, o.k., the weight can stop now. And it’s not. I’m not liking it.
The only symptom I don’t really have are the hot flashes.
If this is Menopause or pre-menopause will the doctors give me anything now, or will I have to wait until it gets worse?
They did a hormone test on me a few months ago and it came back pre-menopause.
My doctor didn’t really seem like he wanted to do anything about it.
But I’m really miserable.

Menopause question?

Im 50, and I stopped getting my period more than one year ago. 2 weeks ago, I became heavily bloated and I had lower abdominal pain. I got most of the symptoms of menopause, like fast beat, hot flush, mood swings and more. 2 days ago, I got light (little bit) vaginal bleeding, similar to my period. What is this bleeding? Is it all part of menopause?

Thanks in advance.
