Hormone replacement therapy and dieting?

I have heard that dieting lowers testosterone levels. However, if your body does not produce any testosterone and you receive it all through hormone replacement therapy, will dieting have any effect on your levels?




I am marathon runner and been told that I might have lower testosterone levels due to being athletic. How do lower levels of testosterone effect the body ?




Slightly regretting taking hormones.?

I’m 23, transgendered(sort of) mtf. I started HRT therapy back in May, and while I’m really not considering going back on my decision, I’m kind of regretting starting it in the first place.

First of all, I’m not female, I don’t feel like a woman trapped in a man’s body. I’m not really gay, though I wouldn’t say I’m straight either, romance hasn’t really become much of an issue for me yet. However, I do get this strange giddy feeling when guys flirt with me. I’m very androgynous naturally, my testosterone levels are low naturally and I’ve been mistake for a girl ever since I was a kid. I’ve even made a few guys gay just by opening up that possibility to them. I was always very proud of my ability to "switch genders" whenever I wanted to. I could tie my hair back and act masculine, then let my hair down and pass as a girl at my very whim. But one day, about a year ago, I noticed a tiny line of hair in the center of my chest, something which had never been there before. I started getting scared of my body "fixing" itself. I began getting really paranoid of losing this androgyny, so I decided to go on HRT to prevent it(with a therapist’s approval of course, and no, I didn’t lie). The crisis(to me at least) was averted.

But now, I can’t help but feel reliant on these drugs. A gift I was born with is now only available to me because I’m altering my chemistry. Starting HRT gave me a new hope for a future, and has given me the courage to do things I would’ve never done as my old self, but I feel so fake, so manufactured.

Should I feel that way? These are my genes, it may be a foreign chemical but it’s my DNA that is shaping my body, just with different tools. But that chemical isn’t "me".

Why does this have to be so complicated and difficult?




I tried Google, but I don’t trust many of these websites because many of them are trying to sell you sham products.

Has anyone here ever successfully increased your testosterone levels, and confirmed this by doing a blood testosterone test (before and after) at your doctor’s office?




I’m confused. I saw an article who warned males not to eat or drink soy drinks because it increases estrogen. But my friends insist that it increases testosterone levels.

I had at test testosterone test done it it was 200 points lower than the average male at my age. However the test was administered during the afternoon around 5:00. I’ve read that testosterone levels are higher in the morning. So does it fluctuate as much as 200points in a single day? Also I’ve had a little stress lately would that also be a significant factor in such a tremendous decrease in levels?




Forgot about side effects and had libido problems while on the drug without knowing why.
Last year move into flatshar to save money for a house – since this recession was supposed to be worst ever and buying was mad we were told.
Flat’mate’ turns out to have aspergers – didn’t mention this in the ad – and hardly talks, leaves lights out, puts his clothes in my wash, turns off the heating so I’m freezing…
Have panic attack at work mid last year, thought it was because of work harassment but instead was side effect of hormone drug propecia.
Then go back on drug and **** shrinks, finally figure out the cause then stop taking drug.
A week later aspie boy has slashed my leather jacket the horrible bastard cos I looked at him funny.
He couldn’t get into nightclubs so was jealous. Plus he was a middle class **** while I come from poor stock.

No living room just a small cold room with crap tv so just stay in my room after work, no TV, and masturbate to internet porn all night, reducing testosterone levels more.
Tried to move out of flat but landlord tells me I have to sign new lease and stay or else move out next day, going back on his word.

Three weeks after quitting propecia my dick and balls shrink and I’m impotent for life, lose muscle, good looks and job.
Will be on testosterone replacemnet therapy for life which might not even work.
Also should add my old flatmate before the aspie knew I was taking the pills and also Viagra – cos I didn’t know why i had no libido- and told my friends behind my back I used viagra but not propecia.

Should I be mad at all these characters?

I am planning on doing some serious weight training next semester, and I am curious if I were to increase my testosterone levels if that would aid me in reaching my goal of a larger, more muscular body. Hi there, I’m a young male and have been doing resistance training for a few years. However, I’m reading that weight training can increase testosterone (and maybe DHT) production in the body, which is a good thing for the bodybuilder since it reduces bodyfat and helps build muscle, but is a bad thing for those concerned with cholestrol levels, cancer, and/or hair loss.

My question is, are there resistance training methods (ie: low intensity, high-rep workouts, adding cardio to your workouts, etc) that would not stimulate the production of testosterone? Is it true that cardio helps lower testosterone levels? Basically, I want to maintain my muscle tone but keep those testosterone levels low. Is that possible?

My doctor just told me that, after my blood test, my testosterone levels are very low. Which explains why I have no energy, can’t lose weight, and have no sex drive. But, I’m only 23 years old! I have a healthy life style and these symptoms just hit me like a ton of bricks! I also have an underactive thyroid. Are these 2 things related? What can cause a 23 year old woman to have low testosterone? Does this mean I’m going through early menopause? I have no symptoms of early menopause. I’m just so confused about this and of course my doctor is out of town. Any information would help.
